ChatGPT and Claude Projects for group work, and an alternative

Projects in ChatGPT and Claude keep files, instructions and chats together for one assistant. Knyte sits beside the assistant and keeps the group’s sources, decisions and plan, so the assistant each person already uses reads the same material.

01The short answer

If you write alone, Projects in ChatGPT or Claude may be enough to keep your files and instructions with the chat. Knyte works for one person too: sources, notes, decisions and plan in one knyte, and your assistant reads from there.

If you write together, Projects can be shared: ChatGPT lets you share from the Free plan up, Claude on Team and Enterprise. A project still belongs to one assistant, though. If each of you uses your own, or you want the reading and the decisions in one place, a knyte gives the group one place to read from.

03Using both

Keep a project for what one assistant needs.

Instructions that shape how an assistant answers, and the files it should draw on, are what Projects do well. Keep using them for that. Put what the group reads and decides in the knyte, so every member’s assistant starts from the same place.

Frequently asked questions

Can a ChatGPT project be shared with a group?

Yes, from the Free plan up. You invite people with chat or edit access, or share a link. On Free a project can have up to 5 collaborators and 5 files, on Plus and Go 10 and 25, and on Pro 100 and 40.

Can a Claude project be shared with a group?

According to Anthropic’s help pages, project sharing is part of Team and Enterprise only. There you share a project with other people in your organisation, with view or edit access. Anthropic is also rolling out a new version of projects in beta, and this comparison follows the current one.

Do members of a shared project see each other’s chats?

In ChatGPT, yes: members can see the project’s chats, files and member list, and each chat shows who started it. In Claude, chats in a project stay private until the person who wrote them shares them. In a knyte, the others see what your assistant added, marked with your name. They don’t see your chats.

Does everyone in the group have to use the same assistant?

A project belongs to one assistant: one in ChatGPT to ChatGPT, one in Claude to Claude. If you share a project, you share it inside one of them. With Knyte, one person can use Claude and another ChatGPT. Both read the same knyte.

What does Knyte cost?

It’s free to start: one knyte of your own, two that others started and 100 MB of uploaded files. If you need more, Knyte Pro for one person in the group is enough, or a project pass for the knyte.
